ISUZU Rev Lifter System (RLS) for PTO Applications

Introduction

The safety of the operator, the public & the equipment is of paramount importance when heavy machinery & tools are being used in industry today.

Legislation & common sense dictates that automatic safety controls are installed on machines, tools, lifting equipment etc. to eliminate or, at least, reduce the potential for accident or injury to occur when there is the possibility for human error or mechanical malfunction.

All of these problems can be minimised by installing a Safestop Rev Lifter System with your PTO.

 

What's in the box

Standard equipment consists of an epoxy encapsulated control module, dedicated wiring harness & dashboard display unit. In some applications an air or vacuum solenoid valve is also installed.

 

Function

The Safestop RLS system's uniqueness is its inbuilt diagnostic and pre-warning functions. For the vehicle PTO to engage all check circuits must be functional & in the correct sequence. The Diagnostic/Engaged light on the panel will flash should any of the circuits detect a malfunction or if the operator gets the engagement process out of sequence. This is automatic & the light will flash a number of times in accordance with the type of error detected. Being extremely user friendly this ensures that a minimum of training in the use of the equipment is required.

The Safestop RLS system is programmable & knows what model of ISUZU vehicle it is in as well as it's expected function.

It even identifies if the vehicle is equipped with a Manual or AMT transmission & compensates it's check circuits accordingly.

All that the operator has to do is:

  • Start the engine
  • Ensure that the park brake is engaged
  • Depress the clutch on a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission

Switch on the PTO switch and the RLS system will automatically undertake the safety check and engage the PTO provided that all parameters have been met.

The panel light will illuminate to indicate the successful engagement of the PTO, the engine revs will automatically adjust to a preset limit, the accelerator will disengage and the idle up screw/switch will be isolated to prevent unnecessary engine revving thus ensuring longevity of your PTO, Transmission & associated mechanical components.

 

PTO Compatibility

The Safestop RLS System is compatible with the following PTO's:

  • Jost - Electrical & Pnuematic
  • Truck Equipment - Vacuum & Pnuematic
  • PZB - Electrical 24v & Vacuum & Pnuematic
  • ZF - Pneumatic

 

Operation

Safestop in conjunction with ISUZU Truck SA have designed the Safestop RLS to meet a minimum standard of safety & automation. The Safestop RLS meets or exceeds the parameters as set out in the statement of requirements of Isuzu.

The following circuits monitor the "safety critical" areas:

  • The Park Brake must be engaged. The RLS knows the vehicle operating parameters & will allow the brake to be disengaged & maintain PTO engagement under certain operations after initial PTO engagement
  • No PTO engagement can take place if the Clutch (Manual Transmissions) is not depressed
  • PTO will not engage if engine is not running
  • PTO will automatically disengage if operator attempts to move vehicle by releasing the Park Brake or attempts to select a drive gear on AMT vehicles etc. where a stationary application is required e.g. Crane, Aerial Platform etc.
  • Vehicle will immediately drop to "Limp Mode" should the PTO, due to an internal malfunction, engage whilst the vehicle is in motion
  • An automatic engine rev up to a preset rev takes place once the PTO has confirmed positive engagement. The throttle is collapsed & the idle up screw/switch is isolated to prevent the operator from exceeding the preset engine revs
